What This Calculator Does
The Hours Calculator helps you determine the total number of hours worked during a shift or period, after deducting break time. It is commonly used for timesheets, payroll, freelance billing, and tracking working hours.
How to Use It
- Enter the **Start Time** of your shift or work period.
- Enter the **End Time**.
- Enter the total **Break Time** in minutes (lunch break, coffee breaks, etc.).
- Click "Calculate Hours" to see the net hours worked.
Calculation Process
The calculator performs the following steps:
- Calculates the gross time difference between Start Time and End Time (in minutes).
- Subtracts the break time from the gross duration.
- Converts the net minutes into hours and minutes for easy reading.
- If the End Time is earlier than the Start Time, it assumes the shift crossed midnight.
Important Notes
- Break time is fully deducted from the total hours worked.
- This calculator assumes a single continuous shift. For multiple shifts in one day, calculate each shift separately and add the results.
- All times are treated in 24-hour format internally for accuracy.
- This tool does not calculate overtime automatically. You would need to compare the result against your standard working hours.
Common Use Cases
- Employees tracking daily or weekly working hours
- Freelancers calculating billable hours
- Managers verifying timesheet submissions
- Calculating study or project hours
